A member of our Absolute Air family has been going the extra mile in the community and winning awards doing it. We want to shine the spotlight on him and share with everyone how proud we are of all he has done. Recently, Airman 1st Class Jensen Martinez was awarded by the Utah National Guard as a Utah Medal of Valor recipient. The Freedoms Foundation also recognizes him with the George Washington Honor Medal.
The Utah Medal of Valor
For the Utah National Guard members, the highest award is the Utah Medal of Valor. It is reserved for those guard members who demonstrate extraordinary courage. Jensen risked his own life to save a complete stranger, and we are proud to call him part of the Absolute Air family.
While off duty, Jensen was with his family members at the Starvation Reservoir in Duchesne County. While there, he and his father noticed two people struggling in the water. Without any life jackets or assistance, the two swam out into the reservoir, rescued both people, and administered first aid until an emergency helicopter rushed both victims to the hospital.
Thanks to Jensen’s fast thinking and courageous actions, both swimmers were able to make a complete recovery.
On January 9, 2021, Jensen became a Utah Medal of Valor recipient at the Roland R. Wright Air National Guard Base in Salt Lake City.
The George Washington Honor Medal
Jensen has also been recognized by the Freedoms Foundation. Utah’s governor awarded him with the George Washington Honor Medal.
The goal of the Freedoms Foundation is to motivate and celebrate Americans who serve a cause greater than themselves. They support the American Constitution and Bill of Rights and believe that every citizen should be actively engaged in protecting the dignity and freedom provided to every American.
